Latest cosplay news from cosplay duo Alodia Gosiengfiao and Ashley Gosiengfiao: they will be doing a cosplay skit for popular anime: Witchblade.
But what is Witchblade? I must admit, I was not very familiar with Witchblade when I first heard it. The name sounded cool but I didn't know what it was. So I quickly searched the net for cosplay galleries for Witchblade galleries. I also looked for some Witchblade episodes. My first impression was the lady characters were hot - only suiting for Ashley and Alodia.
Anyway here is what Wikipedia has to say about Witchblade:
Witchblade (ウィッチブレイド, Uitchibureido?) is an anime series based on the American comic book by the same name. Instead of an adaptation of the original story, the producers decided to create an entire new setup, with all new characters...
"Sought by the greed of men since the dawn of human kind, but only bestowed upon the women whose fate it forever scars... The Witchblade. Is it the righteous sword of God? Or hand of the Devil himself. Now a new bearer has been chosen. And she must discover the answers for herself. As she stands on the brink of destiny, she is forced to seek the balance between ecstasy and ruin."

Here is Alodia's description of the cosplay skit from figure.fm:
All weapons are made out entirely of fiberglass and lights will be incorporated. The protruding parts of the costume is made out of foam and fiberfill. We are using face paint, brightly colored contact lenses and make-up to imitate facial features of the characters. :]
Brief Description of the Skit:
A tank enters the area, wreaking havoc all about in search for fresh human blood. Cannon balls are fired. Walls (made of foam and styrofoam) are destroyed. Rubble scatters. Then, Masane comes in to save the day by stabbing the tank with her blade. She walks away. Victory! Or so she thought. Little did she know that Shiori snuck out of the tank to strike her from behind.
A fight scene (with stunts) takes place. The clashing of the blades can be heard. Shiori's weapon lights up, indicative of the energy building up, which would all be directed towards Masane's frame.
Masane falls, and as she hits the ground, a voice suddenly plays in her head. "Mama! Get up!", shouts the voice of a child. The child who she had come to call her own.
The voice gives her strength. There is an audible build-up of a massive amount of energy. Her blades light up. And then, she strikes back.
Victory! And this time it was for sure.
I believe this will be their entry for AFA09 - Anime Festival Asia 2009 for the Regional Cosplay Championship where they will have competitors from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. The Anime Festival Asia will be held on November 21 - 22. I really love to see them cosplay together in pairing characters like the Magic Gunner Rikku and Magic Gunner Yuna FFX-2 cosplay and the Black Mage / White Mage cosplay.
